Installation

The MarinePlotter installation can uses an optional method called sideloading. There are several good tutorials on the Internet on "How to sideload a Window 10 App". You can use those tutorials to furthur understand the steps outlined below. In adddition, refer to the /"Beta testers/" link below.

Requirements

Make certain that your Windows 10 device contains Windows 10 OS Build 16299 or greater. The build should be the Windows 10 Fall Creator Release, October 2017, or later.

You must install the application with administrator privileges.

Settings

The following outlines the MarinePlotter application installation steps.

1. On you computer, open Settings and go to Update & security

2. Under For developers, click Sideload apps.

3. If you agree to accept the risks, then you are free to download and install apps from any source.

Un-zip the download

1. If you have not already done so, un-zip the MarinePlotter package_8.5.14.0.zip file that you downloaded from the MarinePlotter download page.

2. Open the MarinePlotter package_8.5.14.0 extracted folder.

Laptop and Desktop computers

1. Before installing the app, you need to add the app certificate to the Windows Certificate Store in Trusted Root Certificate Authorities.

   To install the certificate,

   • In the MarinePlotter package_8.5.14.0 folder, click the mouse right-button on the MaringPlotter_8.5.14.0_x86_x64_arm.cer file.
   • Click the Install certificate command.
   • Check the Local Machine item. Click Next.
   • Check the button: Place all certificates in the following store then Browse for and select Trusted Root Certificate Authorities and click the OK button.
   • Click the Next button.
   • Click the Finish button.

Once you install the program certificate, you do not need to repeat the process above.

If you uninstall the MarinePlotter and do not plan to reinstall it, you should also uninstall the certificate.

To install the App,

1. In the MarinePlotter package_8.5.14.0 folder, click the mouse right-button on the Add-AppDevPackage.ps1 icon.

2. In the menu that opened, select the Run with PowerShell command.

3. The system will then install the MarinePlotter as a Windows 10 App - unless it is not compatible with your version of Windows 10.

4. To close the PowerShell command form, click the [X] button in the upper-right corner of the form.

Updating

To install a new release.

1. Download the new release and un-zip the package as above.
2. Uninstall the current MarinePlotter version.
3. After the old MarinePlotter is uninstalled, install the new MarinePlotter as discussed above.

After installing and starting the MarinePlotter for the first time, the program will prompt for the location of the 'MarinePlotterData' folder and the 'MarinePlotterCharts' folder.
